(re)mind | (re)place

You know how a memory can be intimately bound to a photograph. To the point where you’re not certain whether you remember the actual event or merely the photograph. This brings questions of perception, preservation, and fabrication of memories. Questions of subject and subjectivity. With (re)mind | (re)place I’ve aimed to explore how narratives of remembrance take form in relation to photography; how memories are transcribed and transposed with the photographic artefact.

I asked ten friends to point me to locations that hold memories to them. Diffracting these places through the camera lens, I re-created them as model miniatures. I staged them as still-life scenographies where the participants became actors in their own memories.

The photographs in the (re)mind | (re)place suite facilitates playful exploration of time, space, perspective, scale, and light. The photographs unveil stories of emotion, affection, and insight. They carry tales of love, loss, and longing. They form fragmental memoirs of childhood and coming of age. Subjectivities bounce between the participant, photograph, and spectator. Narratives of remembrance branch through and beyond the images. Engaging in these images you might very well start cultivating your own narratives of remembrance.

Please do.
